Please reach us at mello.artwork@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Most people have been sexualized at work, whether or not they identify as sex workers. This exhibition invites you to expand your definition of sex work to any labor that involves leveraging “sexiness” or perceived sexuality for "profit". While we will prioritize artists who self-identify as sex workers, submissions are open to all individuals whose work speaks to the expanded definition of sex work.
Yes! Both 2D visual artists and performers can apply to S*x Work with just an idea. All we ask is that you submit some of your previous work so we have an understanding of your style of artwork. And remember... this event is in September so just make sure your proposal can be completed in that amount of time.
There is a $20 fee for 2D visual artists and no fee for performers. This is because visual artists have the chance to recoup their fee in their artwork(s) price. Performers have a much smaller window to make their money, waiving the $20 fee helps to subsidize this.
Please note as well, if the $20 fee is a barrier for you just reach out to mello.artwork@gmail.com financial assistance is available.
In our ideal world, every artist and performer would be paid simply for participating — and that remains our goal. Whether or not we can offer a stipend depends entirely on sponsorship support. What we can promise is that performers will be featured in a space where tipping is encouraged and normalized, and visual artists will be able to sell their work in the gallery — with 100% of profits going directly to them.
